Test of Humanity 2014This is a cause I continue to devote my personal time and resources to, including a volunteer working trip to Ethiopia in 2013, and a future trip to Ethiopia in spring 2014 (some of my video and photo work is on this page).
While I recognize that there are issues all over the world, and even here at home, I think it is important to keep a global perspective when it comes to world issues. After all, we are all under the same sun.
Canadian HumanitarianCanadian Humanitarian works with children in Ethiopia to educate and empower them to create their own futures, and to be a solution to their own cycle of poverty.
Having witnessed and worked with the organization firsthand, I can attest to the difference this is making in the lives of some extraordinary young people who otherwise might not have a chance at a good future. Education is the first step toward change. We receive it as a birthright here in Canada, and often take it for granted. In Ethiopia it is a true privilege to attend school, and a privilege not afforded to most. Your contribution, even a small one, will help a young Ethiopian student in ways that we in Canada cannot possibly fathom.
I Can't Say Enough Good Things About This Event
Locally, the Test of Humanity has become a marquee event here in the Okanagan. Not only do we have a fantastic event that really brings the community together, but we also have access to one of the best mountain bike playgrounds that I have ever ridden — thanks to the generous and tireless efforts of Shei and Nic Seaton who have volunteered countless hours to build and maintain trails in the area that makes up the race course.
"The Test" has become so notable that many people from other cities specifically seek it out. In short, this race has become a major draw for the Summerland and Penticton area.
Bike Racing for a Great CauseThis year marks the first one that I will ride the race as a solo effort completing as many laps as possible in 4 hours. This also marks the first year in many that I have dedicated myself to a summer of hard cycling training. As many of you know, cycling and specifically mountain biking, has been a major part of my life since I was 9 years old, and it has continued to give to me in my life in all aspects from health to career.
If participating in this race is a way that I can give back to my sport and community, while helping out a little in the world, then I will be sure to give it my all out there on race day!
Thank you very much for reading, and for your kind thoughts and support!
