Autism Speaks Canada's RIDE Over Autism

WHAT WE KNOW ABOUT AUTISM.
We know that autism is the fastest growing and most commonly diagnosed neurodevelopmental disorder in Canada. More children are affected by autism than diabetes, cancer, cerebral palsy, cystic fibrosis, and muscular dystrophy – combined. It is an additional $5.5 million on top of what it would cost to raise a neurotypical child, approximately $80K a year. Up to 70% of individuals with ASD have at least one co-occurring mental health disorder, including anxiety, depression, ADHD and OCD. Each year, an estimated 50,000 teens with autism age out of school-based autism services. Nearly half of 25-year-olds with autism have never held a paying job. There are over 500,000 adults with a neurodevelopmental disorder living in Canada who are employable, yet remain unemployed.

WHY WE RIDE.
We ride for the 70 million
individuals and families impacted by autism worldwide.
We ride for the 1/68 children who receive a diagnoses in Canada.
We ride for Autism Speaks Canada.
Autism Speaks, along with Autism Speaks Canada, is the world’s leading autism science organization. Together with Autism Speaks, we have invested over $200 million to scientific research, $9 million in Canada.   Since 2010, Autism Speaks Canada has granted over $4 million to service organizations across Canada promoting collaboration, best practices and building capacity to support individuals and families living with Autism Spectrum Disorder (ASD).  Autism Speaks Canada is committed to supporting research and services across the country; raising public awareness to encourage inclusion; and collaborating with other organizations to speak alongside the autism community. Autism Speaks continues to work with public and private partners to provide the support that individuals with autism need to successfully transition into adulthood and become valued and valuable members of their communities.
